Acting in Plays, Singing/Audition song for Disney's "Beauty and the Beast"
Expert: Wanda Reinholdt - 12/29/2010
QuestionHello,
I would like to start off by apologizing for asking a question regarding a musical theatre audition; I know that y'all get enough of them.
In a few weeks, I will be auditioning for a production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast". My current voice coach recently moved to Austria on a rotary scholarship, so I need help! I am, of course, searching for an audition song. I classify my self as a Baritenor, being able to sing from a low Ab to a high F#. The song/ cut must be approx. 60-90 seconds, give or take a little. I have talked to the director AND music director, and they both told me not to do anything elaborate, just to do something that shows off my voice, and, most importantly my range, and preferably, something that shows my comfortability singing along my passagio. The one I am really leaning towards is "Being Alive" from "Company" (in C Major- last verse and ending) or "Somewhere" from "West Side Story" (original key- entire song). What is you're advice?
Again, I want to apologize for the length of this message and the fact that it is about an audition song. But thanks again!
John
AnswerHey there, John...And thanks for writing.
I would like to suggest that you take a look at the 2 songs that you have chosen and that you ask yourself these questions:
*Which song shows your talent but is the one that you could prepare best?
*Which song do you understand best?
*Which song do you relate to the best?
*Which song would you say is your first choice?
The song that you answer most is the one that you want to do.
Does this help you?
