Acting in Plays, Singing/Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 12/29/2010
QuestionHello, I am trying out for the role of Freddy in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and was wondering if you had any recommendations for an audition song for this role. I am new to musicals, so any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks.
AnswerHello, Josh –
Thank you for the question.
Be sure you know the musical. You must be ready to perform "Great Big Stuff" before you go to this audition. It is a combination of rhythmic speech and testosterone-driven belting. Anything you sing must be delivered with that kind of delivery.
Consider "Man" from THE FULL MONTY. Learn the entire piece, make a cutting if you need to, have a 16-measure excerpt ready to go.
