Acting in Plays, Singing/Sound of Music song choice

Question
I'm going to be auditioning for The Sound of Music in a few weeks, and I'm having trouble coming up with a song to sing.  I'm auditioning for Liesl, and I have a mezzo soprano voice range.  On the website that has information about the auditions, it  said to try and sing something that showed your personality, kept with the theme of the show you were auditioning for and showed off your vocal range.  It also said that avoiding overdone Broadway songs would be a great help to he directors.  Any suggestions for song selection and/or how to prepare would be GREATLY appreciated.

Answer
Hey there...And thanks for writing.  Congrats on the audition!

Well, Kenzie, I think that the best thing for you to do is to go to the library in your local area and to find the mezzo soprano section in the musicals and to listen to as many songs as you can.  Then pick a song that you like, that you can identify with (that is, understand and relate to) and shows your talent, then prepare it well.  Without knowing your history, hearing you sing, experiencing your singing in person, I cannot give you an exact or a best option for you with regards to ideas for songs.  What I can tell you is that if you follow my advice, you should be able to find a song that fits what they are looking for.

Does that help you?
