Acting in Plays, Singing/Soprano Voice
Expert: Wanda Reinholdt - 4/27/2010
QuestionI am 15. My high school has an exceptional choir that I would like to belong to one day, also I would really like to go to Interlochen for their summer vocal program(s). The highest that I know that I can sing is a High High D. I know I can sing that because of the last note in Phantom of the Opera that Christine holds out! I'm not sure where to take my musical career at this point though I know that I have options. What do you think I could do at this point to strenghten my voice more and spread my range further? Also if I can hit that high note, what type of soprano does that make me? (Because I've tried to research it, and have failed miserably!)
Thanks so much for your help!
AnswerHi there, Rebekah...And thanks for writing.
Just in case that my first answer did not come through, I am going to try again...
You are a soprano. If you look up soprano on the web (google it) you will find a wikepedia definition of it. It might help you to see that there are a lot of different kinds of sopranos - especially in the opera world. However, it is not necessary for you to know that. Just know that you are a soprano.
The best way for you to strengthen your voice and your range is to take voice lessons. A voice teacher will help you to develop the use of your breath and your diaphragm so that you have good power behind your voice. They will give you exercises to assist you in developing your ability and to refine it. They will also provide you with opportunities to sing in front of people for recitals and the like. Taking voice lessons is the best way to learn.
Does that help you?
