QuestionQUESTION: Hi, my name is Abby, and I am an amateur in musical theater. I just finished my first show, and want to continue. I am a soprano, can go up to a high F, the one with the two over it (my computer can't write it, sorry# I am thinking about auditioning for Seussical the Musical for a community theater and need help: 1-Deciding on a role, 2- Seeing if I should audition for another show before that #auditions are in June and it goes on in September.) and 3- Choosing an audition song. Thank you, and any further tips might help, please share!!
ANSWER: Hi there, Abby...And thanks for writing. Congrats on your first show!
I am so glad to hear that you want to continue.
First of all, are there any musicals that you love? Do any of these musicals have songs in them tat you can identify with/ relate to/ understand? If so, then maybe there is a song there for you to do.
Regarding what role to decide on, it is important to have an aim - to audition for a certain part. But I want to caution you that it is really important for you to know only what you are aiming for while at the same time allowing the Director(s) to decide where you best fit and doing your best on that role.
Auditioning as regularly as you can is a good idea.
Does that help you?

QUESTION: Thank you, Wanda! Your advice helps a lot! The audition information has been released, and I'm too young too audition for any main roles *sigh*, but I probably wouldn't get any big roles anyway. For the auditions, though, you need a, "up-tempo theater song, preferably not from the show." We also need to read a passage from a Dr. Seuss book as a monologue. For the song, I think I will do sixteen bars of "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray. Any thoughts on a good book to use for monologue? (My voice is very high pitched, so I'm best with cheerful monologue.) Thanks again!
AnswerHi there, Abby....
Aww...too bad that you can't audition. But it's great that you are looking at it and thinking about it to prepare for a time when you can.
When you say "book for monologue", are you asking what play to take a monologue from? I am not sure of your question.
