AnswerHi there, Broody (Horizon)...And thanks for writing.
It's great to see that you have a dream. I'm excited that you have something that you are excited about. That's awesome. It's also great that you have others in your family that are interested in this dream as well. Support is always a good thing. :)
I think it is important for you to do a few things:
*First of all, although it is really good that you want to sing, it would serve you well to answer 1 question - why? Miley Cyrus is a good role model. However, you cannot live Miley's life. You need to live your life. So why do you (Horizon/ Broody) want to sing? You say it is something you love to do. That is a good start. But why else? What do you want to accomplish with singing? Who do you want to help? How do you want to help?
The reason I encourage you to answer these questions is because it is essential that you are able to persist if you want to follow this dream. Being in touch with the why will help you through the hard times.
*Secondly, once you have answered the "why" question (as above), then it is essential that you make up your mind that you are not going to let anything get in your way. That said, it is essential that you are wise about your decisions and that you pay attention and respect your family, your friends, yourself, and the law while pursuing your dream. At the same time, it is up to you whether to look at each of the obstacles as opportunities or as obstacles. There is always a way to do something if you want it badly enough (which means being in touch with your why so that you know exactly why you are doing what you are doing).
*And to improve, find school choirs, school contests, community contests, community opportunities, community choirs - places you can sing. And join them. Sing lots. Create opportunities for you to sing at birthdays or anniversaries or local events or the like by asking for the chance. And take voice lessons if you can from a voice teacher or coach so that you can learn really good technique. If you sing often and you learn to do it well, you will develop a reputation and who knows what will happen along the way.
*And finally, it is imperative or very important to your success that you do not measure your success by whether or not you are famous or whether or not you have "made it". Be the best you can be in the place where you are at. Do your best with every singing experience you find. Enjoy it. If it leads to other things, then great. If it does not, that is ok too. Just do your best and honor your family and your friends and yourself. By doing that, you will be a positive influence where you are at. You won't need to become famous at all. Fame is overrated. It comes with a whole bunch of other problems that you do not want to know about at this time. Just be the best you can be. That goes a long ways.
Does that help you?
