Question
I am thinking of auditioning for the community theatre production of The Producers, I have a mezzo/alto voice and I'm 16. I am requested to not sing a song from the show and I'm not sure of which one i should do. I would appreciate it if you could give me some suggestions on song choices.

Hi there, Lauren...And thanks for writing.

Are there any other musicals that you like?  Are there any songs in those musicals that you understand, that you can relate to and that are in your range?  If so, you may have your song.

Other ways to find songs - go to the library and listen to mezzo/alto musical songs.  They are on file based on range at your local library.  Look for a song that you relate to.  Look for a song that you understand.  Look for one that can show your talent.  Look for one that is in your range.  And finally, look for one that you can enjoy.  

Without knowing you, without working with you, and without experiencing your talent first hand, it's difficult for me to suggest.  Your voice teacher, your choir teacher, or any professor of music may also be able to assist you.
