Acting in Plays, Singing/Classical voice lessons
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 6/24/2010
QuestionHi my name is Juliet and I have a few minor questions on voice lessons. Ok to start off I really like singing but I'm just not very good because I don't have a proper technique. Luckily my aunt is a very good vocal coach such as yourself and she has agreed to coach me for free. The problem is she only teaches classica music like oprea and art songs, it's her passion. I on the other hand love more contemporary music from my favorite female vocalist like Linda Eder, Celine Dion, and Barbra Streisand. Do you think it would be smart to be trained classically if I plan on singing a totally diffrent genre?
Thank you, Juliet
AnswerHi, Juliet –
Thank you for the question.
Opera singers have very little in common with such pop-belters as Linda Eder, Celine Dion, and Barbra Streisand. The differences are all about placement, working standard American English, and not having to sing over an orchestra without a microphone.
So, "No!"
I am a vocal coach to working singers in the San Francisco Bay Area. When you want to book an appointment, contact me through Craig's List. This week’s connection is:
