Hi, my name is Paisley. I just wanted to ask a question about the age requirements for auditioning for the Fantasticks. You see, I'm 13 years old but, look about 15. I'm a superb opera and showtune singer and great actor. Look at my YouTube video of "Much more" Just hook up 97paisley and click on the one of me singing much more and reading the monologue that luisa says. It might have a picture of a white camera on the opening pic but thats the one! So, do to my age, do you think I still have the possibility of making the audition at this community theatre?

Thank you for the question. THE FANTASTICKS is a totally amazing musical.
I listened to your youtube. Very nice. Go back to your sheet music. You have a number of rhythmic things going on that you need to correct as well as all your optional note choices. Just sing what's there, OK?
The role of "Luisa" is basically about a teenage girl on the very brink of becoming a woman. Though she may not know it, her sexual readiness and desirability is clearly evidenced by those around her. The song, "Much More", reflects that energy and frustration. It's not just about getting out of town for a while. If she did leave home – what might happen? If she did start playing house with Matt – what might happen?
Auditions can be crazy experiences. Unless the role has been pre-cast, you don't know who your competition will be or how many will be standing in line behind you. More than likely, the other girls will be older than you and, thus, have a stronger edge to their voice. Just go. Let the producers become acquainted with you. Whatever you choose to sing for your audition, it must reflect Luisa's vocal range.

Experience
As a vocal coach, I work primarily with singers and actors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. My students range from absolute beginners to working professionals, from pre-schoolers to senior citizens. The vast majority of my clients come to me through recommendation. I know how to identify any singer's vocal category, i.e., soprano, tenor, alto, baritone, etc. I know how to muscle-up every singer's vocal range and to expand it beyond conventional definitions. I have developed a vocal methodology for those who want to know how to belt, THE BELTER'S METHOD. As a singer who spent half of his career doing Bel Canto, I know that classical or Italian methodologies do not work in Standard American music. Bel Canto cannot be "adapted" to meet the needs of contemporary American music, including the demands of the Musical Theatre.
There are a number of major components to my work as a vocal coach. The first is to identify the client's vocal category and to strengthen and maximize the vocal range accordingly. Then it's about teaching a reliable vocal workout that will enable the client to gain better control of their musicianship. That includes scale work to expand the vocal range and to improve placement, breath control, and diction. Then we work on material for the audition portfolio, the immediate job or assignment, a recording session, etc. My task to is to better equip singers and actors who are hoping to or relying upon their performance skills and vocal endurance to maintain a career in the Performing Arts.
