Acting in Plays, Singing/Into the Woods Audition

Question
Hi,

First, I'd like to thank you for your time, as I'm sure you spend much of it on such questions. My name is Cassie and I'm planning to audition for the part of Cinderella in my school's production of Into the Woods. I'm pretty sure I know which song I'm going to sing. The trouble is they're also asking for a 1 minute monologue and I'm completely lost. I was wondering if you could suggest a monologue or even a play I might try looking through. Thank you so much and I really appreciate your help.

Answer
Hi Cassie...And thanks for writing.  Thanks for the thanks.  :)  And congrats on auditioning!

Is there a musical or a play that you really like?  Is there a monologue in those plays that you could use?   It's essential that you find a monologue that you resonate with or that you understand at least in part.  You need to like the play as well and know what happens in the play.

Go to your local library and look through these musicals and plays that you like.  Or another way to find a monologue is to find a monologue book for females.  That's a little harder because usually the monologue is from a play that you have never heard of nor read.  But if you have time to read the full play as well, use a monologue from a book.

Does that help you at all?
