Question
My middle school is putting on a production of Little Shop of Horrors. I am planing to audition for the part of Audrey II or one of the three girls living on Skid Row. Do you have any suggestions for an audition song that is appropriate for these roles?

Answer
Hi there, Jillian...And thanks for writing.

Well, the best audition song to pick is one that is appropriate for you to do.  What I mean is that it needs to be a song that you like.  It needs to be a song that you understand.  And it needs to be a song that shows your talent without stretching you too much - you want something that is in your range and that is within your experience.

If you are a fan of musicals, I would suggest doing something from one of them in your range.

As for specific songs, going to the library and finding one that will work is the best way to do it.  It would not be helpful for me to give you a song that I think that you should do.  I do not know you.  I do not know your experience.  I do not know your voice.  Nor do I know your dramatic ability.  But you know you.  You know all of these things.  So pick something that you can connect with.  It will make all the difference.

I hope that this helps you.  Let me know if you have any further questions.
