Acting in Plays, Singing/audition song
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 2/4/2011
QuestionI am a sophomore in high school and am somewhat new to theater but i have been singing since 5th grade and i will be auditioning for hello dolly so i need a song in the same genre but im totally lost on what song i should do. I am an alto one and my voice is pretty powerful but i don't exactly have a very big range right now its roughly about a G3 to F5. if you could help with suggestions that would really help me. please and thank you!
AnswerHi, Michelle –
Thank you for the question.
Make sure you know the score of HELLO, DOLLY before you go to the audition. Don't waste your time watching the movie with Barbra Streisand. Listen to the Original Cast recording with Carol Channing.
Whenever possible – it's always a good idea to sing another song by the same composer. Consider adding any of the following songs to your audition portfolio:
Open a new window – MAME
We need a little Christmas – MAME
I don't want to know – DEAR WORLD
Tap your troubles away – MACK AND MABEL
Wherever he ain't – MACK AND MABEL
