Question
Hi Sean,

I have an audition for "Into the Woods" coming up in the next few weeks. I am planning on auditioning for Rapunzel and Cinderella. I am a lyric soprano, my range is from G to high E.

I really need tips for audition songs. They recommend singing a "lyrical, narrative song" and I am not certain which songs will encompass this request.

Here are some of my ideas but I would really appreciate some of your suggestions!
How Could I Ever Know - The Secret Garden
Goodnight My Someone - The Music Man
Somewhere/I Feel Pretty - West Side Story
Green Finch and Linnet Bird - Sweeney Todd

Thank you for your question.

Whenever possible, it's always a good idea to sing another song by the same composer. Sondheim's "Green Finch" is a wonderful choice. Also consider his "I Remember" from EVENING PRIMROSE.

Songs by other composers that would work well for to show off your soprano range for "Cinderella" or "Rapunzel" include:
