Acting in Plays, Singing/Little Shop of Horrors
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 6/3/2011
QuestionHello,
I have an audition next week for Little Shop of Horrors but I have no clue on what to use for an audition song. I am 16 years old and am going for the role of Audrey. I can sing soprano or alto but I prefer singing soprano or belting at auditions. I had a few ideas on what to use for the audition but I'm not entirely sure on them. I thought about singing "Not for the Life of Me" but the promblem with that is the director has already heard me sing that and I also thought about using "My Strongest Suit" but I'm scared that that may be seen as me auditioning for one of the 3 lead backup girls or something. I also thought about using a song from Guys and Dolls but this theatre company just did that show.
Thank you,
Shelby Keller
AnswerHi, Shelby –
Thank you for the question.
"Audrey" in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS sings to C#. "Not for the Life of Me" cuts off at the B one step below that.
Consider any of the following:
Gimme, Gimme – THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE
Lost and Found – CITY OF ANGELS
Frank Mills – HAIR
Once You Lose Your Heart – ME AND MY GIRL
Whatever material you choose, push Audrey's manner through your presentation.
