AnswerHi there! And congrats on the audition, Amy!
I would love to give you a song that would be perfect for you. However, I am not able to do that. It's not because I do not want to help you. It is because the help I want you to have must assist you to do very well in your audition. The reasons why are that I do not know you personally nor have I seen you perform nor have do I know your experience. And, in addition, I do not know your voice nor your preferences.
What I can do though is give you guidelines to help you find a song.
1. Find a song that you love. In other words, like the song.
2. Find a song that is in your range. In other words, it sounds like you are a mezzo soprano or an alto. You will want to find a song that fits your range.
3. Find a song that you are also able to relate to and understand.
4. And find a song that shows your abilities.
There are a few places to find songs like this:
1. Think of a musical that you love. Is there a song or two in that musical that would fit the criteria above? If so, do that one.
2. Go to a musical teacher, choir director or voice teacher and ask them about songs for you. They know you well enough to be able to do that.
3. Go to the library and listen to mezzo and alto songs from musicals. They are usually classified in range.
4. Watch lots of musicals and see if you can find a song.
Once you find the song, then learn the music first, the words second, the music and words together next, and then add the choreography or storytelling with your body last. You will be ready to roll. :)
Does that help you?
