Acting in Plays, Singing/Song selection for an ensemble
Expert: Sean Martinfield - 7/11/2011
QuestionHi! I'm directing a musical theater ensemble for 8 to 12-year-olds and need a fantastic, high energy number to blow an audience away! I like the feel of "Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News" from The Wiz (performed as an enemble number), but feel like there must be a better song out there. It needs to be something the kids can really dance and move to. Any suggestions?
AnswerHi, Susan –
Thank you for the question.
"Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News" from THE WIZ is a good choice. Whatever the choice, including numbers that have solos, you can always reprise a melody to add another dance variation for the ensemble. Also consider any of the following:
Go, Go, Go Joseph — JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT
One – CHORUS LINE
Slap That Bass – CRAZY FOR YOU
Strike Up The Band – STRIKE UP THE BAND
