Acting in Plays, Singing/Annie audition?

I am auditioning for one of the orphans in a local production of Annie, and am 14 (so I would audition for Annie, but I'm probably too old). My range is from an E below the staff to the E 3 octaves above that, and I can belt up to an E an octave below my highest note (as if that wasn't confusing enough with all the Es). Since I'm 14 and look older, I want to find a song that is challenging, but will also portray me as a younger person like the orphans.I was thinking maybe "What it Means to Be a Friend" from 13, but I'm not really sure.

Thank you for the question.

You're kidding, right?

The song doesn't exist that will make you appear younger.
What you will appear as – no matter what you might sing in your 3-octave range – is foolish.

If you were my client and made this announcement to me, I would fall off the piano bench and quickly point out that there will be a line of little girls less than 10-years-old, less than 5-feet high, wrapped around the block – with their mothers marching beside them – ready to kill each other to play any one of the orphans. Whoever plays "Annie" may have as many as two understudies among this gaggle of orphans. If you then decided to go to the audition anyway – I would fire you.

If your school were producing Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET – and if you are quick to memorize – you would be eligible for the title role.

As a vocal coach, I work primarily with singers and actors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. My students range from absolute beginners to working professionals, from pre-schoolers to senior citizens. The vast majority of my clients come to me through recommendation. I know how to identify any singer's vocal category, i.e., soprano, tenor, alto, baritone, etc. I know how to muscle-up every singer's vocal range and to expand it beyond conventional definitions. I have developed a vocal methodology for those who want to know how to belt, THE BELTER'S METHOD. As a singer who spent half of his career doing Bel Canto, I know that classical or Italian methodologies do not work in Standard American music. Bel Canto cannot be "adapted" to meet the needs of contemporary American music, including the demands of the Musical Theatre. There are a number of major components to my work as a vocal coach. The first is to identify the client's vocal category and to strengthen and maximize the vocal range accordingly. Then it's about teaching a reliable vocal workout that will enable the client to gain better control of their musicianship. That includes scale work to expand the vocal range and to improve placement, breath control, and diction. Then we work on material for the audition portfolio, the immediate job or assignment, a recording session, etc. My task to is to better equip singers and actors who are hoping to or relying upon their performance skills and vocal endurance to maintain a career in the Performing Arts.
