Acting in Plays, Singing/grease
Im auditioning for the role of Rizzo in grease and we have to sing a pop song from the 50's or 60's and Im not very familiar with many songs from those decades. Do you have any suggestions as to what song i should sing?
Hi, Jessica –
Thank you for the question.
Consider “Who’s Sorry Now” – a huge hit for Connie Francis in 1958. (GREASE takes place in 1959.) The song has been appropriated into several musical hits, including: All That Jazz, Return To The Forbidden Planet, and Fosse. Two other '50s pop hits to investigate are: "It's My Party" and "Where The Boys Are". Both songs were included in the juke box musical BEEHIVE.
Be prepared to sing Rizzo's "There Are Worse Things I Could Do". If this was a professional audition and I'm on the panel – if I had any doubts about calling you back, I would ask for 16-measures from that song. Whatever you choose for your audition, present it with all of Rizzo's attitude.
