Acting in Plays, Singing/Little Shop of Horrors Audition Song
On January 7, 2013, I will be auditioning for my high school's production of Little Shop of Horrors, and I'm aiming for the role of either Crystal, Chiffon, or Ronette. My director suggested either a Broadway song or a 50's rock song for the audition. I was considering "There's A Fine, Fine Line" from Avenue Q, but I'm not sure if that would be the best choice. I sing mezzo-soprano, but I have sung alto in other shows I've done, so suggestions in either range would be helpful. Thank you for your time. :)
Hi, Rachel –
Thank you for the question.
Save "There's A Fine, Fine Line" from AVENUE Q for another occasion.
The first thing to do is learn the girls' music and to understand their function within the show. They are three hot babes who relate directly to the audience. They tell us exactly how it is in this crazy neighborhood.
Since you have the option to sing a classic Rock song from the '50s, then consider "Mr. Lee" by the great girl group – The Bobbettes. You can easily present this as a solo. The song has everything that Crystal, Chiffon, and Ronette do in LITTLE SHOP.
