QUESTION: Hey there this site is really helpful...well

My name is Joshua Knepper I am 17 years old and graduating Highschool this year..I love to act and to sing and I thought What better a career than attempt broadway?

My plan when graduating in June was to attend Community college for a year then go to VCU and major in acting...I then wanted to move to NY and get a masters from NYU.

I don't know if this plan would work or not haha...but I also wanted to attend AMDA in NYC.....Musical theater is a big dream of mine and I would really like help or advice on what I should do.

Maybe if I should attempt to get an agent or what haha.


Please help me out.

ANSWER: First of all, Joshua, get your education.  Your community college and VCU plan is a good one, but make sure you finish your college degree.  The most important thing for you to focus on right now is completing your education.  Everything else can wait.

A masters from NYU is also a good idea.  And hey, audition for AMDA - what the heck!

Don't worry about getting an agent.  That can come later, after your masters' degree.

QUESTION: That sounds awesome...well I'm not sure about the Masters thing But I'm defiantly considering it!

I really want to move to NY  or California after I get my Bachelors' Degree...and find a steady job there.

Good luck.  You say you want to find a "steady job."  If you want to get a job as an actor, then there are no "steady jobs."  Get a day job that you can rely on and that pays the bills, and do your acting in your off hours (after you get your education, of course).
