Question
two years ago i discovered that I have a natural acting talent(studying and acting plays from the shakespeare's novels) and have been researching techniques, styles etc. about acting, i am very interested in educating myself on the real deal.  Turks and Caicos (my country) is a small country and  people dont talk like tis (becoming an actress) and the government doesn't offer scholarship for the area. Truth be told i have very very little experience but enough drive to learn and prosper. ive been looking at universities and colleges online alot recently and dont know how i'd be able to get into them without a scholarship or how i can contribute back to my country if i make it (especially including that they're aren't any jobs in the area here. please give me advice , and please don't tell me i should change my major because no denying it i won't.

Answer
Diandra,

You have made the first, big step toward your dream of becoming an actor - you have reached out for help.  You will need to do that a lot, but I think you will find it's the best way to get advice.

The most important thing for you to do right now is to get some experience.  Small drama clubs in your city or school are the best place to start.

Also, if you are truly interested in going to college or university, you should not assume you won't be able to go without scholarship.  I recommend you contact the colleges you are interested in and explain your situation.  Many colleges have people whose only job is to help people like you find ways to pay for college.  Having experience as an actor isn't required to get into college.  Good academics is most important - college is where you can gain experience.

Also, you should talk with people in your own country who are involved in theatre.  I would recommend you contact the Turks and Caicos Friends of the Arts (http://www.tcfaf.com/profile.html) and ask them to help you get in contact with professional actors.  They are the best people to turn to for advice.

Good luck!  Feel free to write to me if you have other questions: johnaney@gmail.com
