Acting in Plays, Singing/Sound of Music Audition!

QuestionQUESTION: I have a big audition coming up for the sound of music. I have my eye on the role of Maria, and I think I have a shot if I chose the right material. I have a comfortable soprano voice, and need help selecting rep for my song and monologue. Any help would be appreciated! thank you! :)
ANSWER: Hi Ann...Thanks for writing. Just so I am sure we are talking about the same thing, would you be able to tell me what you mean by "selecting rep"? Do you mean repertoire? Are you looking for a piece to do and a monologue to do?

QUESTION: yes, sorry if my question was unclear. I need help selecting repertoire. I need a song and a minute-long monologue, preferrably in the style of Maria.
AnswerNo worries, Ann. I just wanted to be sure I understood your short form. We all have different ones. :)
Ok. Can you do a piece from the actual musical? That's what I would do. Take a piece from the musical and a monologue of Maria's and do them.
If not, look up musicals at your local library and listen to pieces until you find something that is soprano and you like. If that does not work, talk with a vocal coach or teacher about it and ask them to help you find something. They usually have a library and collection. And from meeting you and talking with you, they can best determine what will suit you.
Let me know if this helps, ok? It's the best advice I can give at this distance.
