On the plus side, acting can and often does open possibilities for travel, stimulating collaborative professional work and can provide an imaginative spring board (as imagination is a big part of acting) for related careers in writing, producing, marketing, sales - albeit the  probability exists those jobs may come in more mundane business settings.

Don't ignore training, its vital, but refuse to consider your training and your acting as necessarily means to a single end (a theatrical career). Theater skills are also life skills - after all people pay to see real, live human being's onstage. It's difficult, but important work

And don't ignore reading and seeing all the theater and film you possibly can - NOW. Too many fledgling actors think they can just show up at auditions as blank slates - whereas if they'd done their homework more thoroughly they'd know what makes for exciting and insightful work and position themselves to be ready to pursue specific work that fits their talents and passions. An erudite, committed and well trained actor is a thing of beauty!

Expertise

I have been a director, dramaturg, actor and acting coach for over twenty-five years and am happy to share my expertise in learning to act, character development, taking direction, acting styles and techniques, auditioning techniques, how to choose an audition monologue or song (but NOT specific audition songs or monologues), learning lines, script analysis, acting in musicals, dramas, comedies, farces, mysteries and even new plays in their first productions. I am NOT a voice teacher or vocal coach. My expertise is in acting and directing, not in singing. I can not advise you on specific audition songs, vocal exercises, how to stretch your range or on solving vocal problems. For that you need an expert on singing and vocal work. And there is at least one very good one on this list.
