Acting in Plays, Singing/How to get a musical produced?

Question
Hi,
I was wondering if you could help. I am 22 and have just moved from England to Minneapolis/St Paul to get married and to start a career in the Theatre. I have been acting since I was 11 and playwriting since I was 16. Over the past four years I have been writing a musical, Good For Today. I have been collaborating on this project and I have been the lyricist and the book writer. In June 2003 and March 2004 we did rehearsed readings in Winchester, England. In June 2004 i produced a full production of the show and in 2005 we recorded a condensed cast recording. I spent this summer (2006) rewriting the show and hope to get it produced in Minneapolis, but how do I go about this? I want to write musicals more than anything in the world and just do not know how to get my foot in the door, should I get an agent? Ideally, like hundreds of others I want to see my musical on Broadway. How can I get it staged in my local area and then move onto bigger, better places, I guess that is my main questions.

Many thanks
