Acting in Plays, Singing/west side story audition

Question
I am auditioning for "West Side Story" in Jan. and needed help with an
audition piece.  The show is for equity members but they are actually opening
it up to non equity performers, which is very exciting.  I am a freshman in
college, true soprano.  They just want 16 bars of one song, so I really need
something to blow them away.  I am ethnic, so if i was to be cast (hopefully)
I'm most positive it would be as a Shark girl.  Any advice on a high song that
would really impress the judges and show off some personality/acting/
emotions in just 16 bars, would be fabulous!  Thanks
so much for your time.

Go to your local music store or amazon.com and purchase The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology (mezzo-soprano) versions.
You may also find it at your library.

I highly recommend it as a valuable investment for anyone who is going to be doing musical theatre.  I own all the soprano volumes myself.

Play around with the pieces in the anthology.  Find something that suits your voice and that makes you feel confident.  Practice!

It is hard to recommend a specific song without ever having heard you sing.  I would check out the anthologies and find one there.  Once you find something let me know what you pick and if you want audition tips.

Good luck!!
