Action Figures/extremely rare, one of a kind potf figure question

Question
David, i have a one of a kind error figure that i have been holding on to since 1995. It's a lando calrissian orange carded figure, before you tune out, here's the kicker. HE'S GOT A BLUE UNDERSHIRT!!!

I have been collecting figures since 1994 and have bought thousands. I used to frequent frank'n'sons in walnut california (one of the largest weekly toy shows in the world) and have had this figure and a luke transition tray (def not as rare, but i still own it and will put that one up for sale as well) verified by a fellow vender. His name is dean, not that it matters (he may still be there).

Anyways, my question is: how do i go about verifying this figure so it's listed in action figure digest magazine, graded, authenticated, etc. I know sir steve sansweet will be very interested since i'm virtually positive it's a one of a kind but don't know the steps to take prior to contacting some interested buyers who will obviously want to ensure it's real.

After 16 years i'm finally willing to part with this figure and i'm confident it will become the rare figure in the entire new star wars line (should be much rarer than the ben kenobi transition saber since there's an actual record of a sale for those), whereas i've never been able to find one account of someone having the error figure i'm talking about.

Will post a picture soon (currently out of town on business when i saw this site).

For anyone interested in this (this is my first attempt/post at selling this figure) i am now taking offers and will be listing this on ebay within the next couple weeks as of now (4/25/11).

Thanks for reading. Looking forward to your reply. (nice site btw!)

Sincerely, Vince

Answer
Wow...what a neat dilemma to have!  I will do my best to direct you where I might start.  I would contact one of the big 3 as far as graders/authenticators are concerned.  AFA, GIA, or PSA. One of these respected services should be able to help further.  Others do exist but these are generally what collectors trust.  Depending on how much research, time, energy or a combination of all they will come up with a cost for their efforts.  This will at least get you some provenance on the item for buyers to feel better.  After that it is up to the community at large to determine what your piece might be worth.  Sounds promising but you never can tell.  Good luck.....respectfully....Dave

Expertise

I am a graduate and self studied/taught expert in answering specific questions about vintage Star Wars and GI Joe figures, vehicles and misc. collectables. The reference to Star Wars 'vintage', to me, refers to the items which appeared from 1977 to 1985. Notice this also refers to the elusive items which were produced for the two cartoon series productions. 'Vintage' GI Joe items include only the 12 inch / 1:6 height variety produced proir to 1980. In most cases I should be able to identify an item by description. For approximates on value I of course would need some decent photos.

Experience

I have been a collector, buyer, seller and general fan, of vintage toys, for the last 30 years. My schooling and self study has included years of research and travel to various events. I have owned/still own numerous examles of many collections for study, research and comparison. I am still an avid trader, buyer and seller of these and several other high quality items.
