ANSWER: It appears to be a counterfeit figure.  I would guess Czechoslovakian.  Lots of overseas countries copied the real thing the best they could.  My guess would be the Emperor as well.  Is it marked anywhere you can see?  If it is, or even if not, it is something collectors like myself and others like to find.  michaelandassoc@aol.com,  respectfully,  Dave

QUESTION: thank you for getting back to me. yes he has markings on his back that says:  1980 MGM INK    philippines.  i have had this figure for at least 20 years so i dont think its a recent copy. is there any more info you can give me?

Answer
Sorry for the confusion.....I did not mean it was a recent copy or not 'real'.  I meant to imply that it was more than likely a counterfeit or figure that was made overseas years ago without consent by Lucas Ent./Kenner for production....not a licensed product.  Several countries....Turkey, Chech, Philippines, Mexico...others...did this when the original 3 movies and figures came out in the late 70's and early 80's to avoid paying royalties and other costs.  They were similar to the originals but never quite as well made...and always a little different to avoid certain lawsuits if not.  If it is a SW knock of off or a Masters of the Universe or GI Joe it might still have some value.  The item would have to be examined to determine what it actually is and its worth.  Serious collectors including myself are always on the lookout for the real things.  Dave

Expertise

I am a graduate and self studied/taught expert in answering specific questions about vintage Star Wars and GI Joe figures, vehicles and misc. collectables. The reference to Star Wars 'vintage', to me, refers to the items which appeared from 1977 to 1985. Notice this also refers to the elusive items which were produced for the two cartoon series productions. 'Vintage' GI Joe items include only the 12 inch / 1:6 height variety produced proir to 1980. In most cases I should be able to identify an item by description. For approximates on value I of course would need some decent photos.

Experience

I have been a collector, buyer, seller and general fan, of vintage toys, for the last 30 years. My schooling and self study has included years of research and travel to various events. I have owned/still own numerous examles of many collections for study, research and comparison. I am still an avid trader, buyer and seller of these and several other high quality items.
