Subject: Bandai Japan
Question hi
i have been searching the net for someway of contacting Bandai japan about their recent ongoing DRAGONBALL Z HYBRID ACTION figure series to try and ask them if they will be releasing certain characters, as there have been a few japanese DBZ figure series' released over the years and they only ever release the same characters and always miss out 2 characters in paticular - similar for transformers aswell. is there any way i could contact them to put forward my suggestions?
thanks
Answer They'll never give you a straight answer. And Bandai America has no idea what Bandai Japan is doing, etc. I worked for both companies many times, and nobody had an idea what was going on. One time, they paid me to test 3 different Ultraman figures (When the US show - Filmed in Australia, was comng out). All the kids liked 1 figure, and didn't like the rest, and guess which on they put out. And kids didn't like the show, except for the last 5 minutes, when tht action happened. So the show was a flop. They only lucked into Power Rangers with Saban. Akifumi Nakanishi was President of Bandai America, and he was trying to straighten it out, but I haven't talked to him in maybe 5 years.
There are too many problems with Licensing between the US and Japan, as Licensing in Japan is so much cheaper than the US.
I've got a Dragonball Z figure somewhere from when I worked for Jakks Pacific, that they only made 100 of, and gave out at a special party.
You can call Bandai America 200 times, and be given a different answer every time, if they even answer you. It's why they even changed names in the early 90's (I think they were called Dreamworks for 1 year). You'd be better off buying Hobby Japan, or finding a store that carries Japanese toys, with Japanese employees. My Japanese has gone downhill over the last few years.
Try Toy Tokyo in NYC.
