Question
Why do manufacturers display a different color scheme with their plastic toys on the outside of packaging with bold and vibrant colors, but on the inside the real molds are made with different and in most cases drab colors or all one color? Why can they do this?

Answer
Toys are mainly sold by pre-orders. They show the packaging (And prototype if they have made one) at trade shows, and see if enough interest to actually make the toy. Not sure what toy you are talking about, as most are blister carded so you can see them. Also, to keep the cost down, they many times have poor quality control, and will cut whatever corners they can to keep the retail price down.
