Question
hello.please help.i have just finished my course for acting so im now an actor.i have sent 300 cvs off to agencies and spent hours looking for jobs on the internet.no 1 has got back to me and i feel im going round in circles the only thing on my mind now is to move to the U.S. which is a big step as im a full time mum.any advice?thanks sian

Answer
Hi Sian,

I need a little more information before I can answer this question adequately.

You don't say where or how long this acting course was. Most legitimate acting programs take place at colleges or universities and last from 2-4 years. Even after graduating many students spend years of auditioning and networking to even begin to start their dream.

Instead of sending off cvs and looking on the internet, you have to become involved in the acting community locally. That means doing community theatre or any other non-paying acting opportunity you can get. It means going to any audition you can find out about. Graduating from a course does not make you an actor. This is very hard work and only the strongest, most talented and most dedicated artists will achieve this dream.

Moving to the U.S. right now would be a huge mistake - you would only be a much smaller fish in a much bigger pond.

Perhaps you should concentrate on being a Mom right now and think very, very carefully about how much time and effort you can realistically put into this.

I don't want to destroy your desire to be an actor, but I do want you to understand the realities of this profession.

Good luck.
