Question
Hello,
My daughter who is 6 has been taking musical theater classes for the last year.  She is now getting ready for her first audition in a children's performance on Annie Jr.  She has to do 16 bars of a song and a 1 minute monologue.  We have settled on Consider Yourself for the song but I really don't know how to pick out a monologue.  The instructions say that it should be similar in style to the character you would like to portray which would be one of the orphans.  Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?  Does it have to be an actual monologue from a musical?  I never did this kind of thing myself so any other tips, or what to expect at the audition would be very much appreciated.

Answer
Christy,

As far as a monologue, go with something that is appropriate for a 6 year old. No it does not have to be a monologue from a musical. You could do a google search for monologues for grade K or 1. What might be the easiest is to get a monologue from Annie. You could always piece something together (I mean edit out the other speaking parts) to create a monologue.

As far as what to expect-hard to tell. I am not sure who is auditioning your daughter. Also, is it a professional audition? Just have everything prepared and practiced before the audition.
