Question Good Morning, Ma'am... I am 3rd year high school student in the Philippines. One of our requirements in our music class is to have a Broadway. We must perform this October 26, 2007 as a requirement for the second semester. I would like to ask Ma'am
if you have a script of Grease. We really had a hard time finding this script in the internet but none is free. I hope that you will gave us a copy of the script in Grease.
I really appreciate it if you would give us a copy. We promise that we will not change the script.
GOD Bless and More Power...
Sincerely,
Aisah
Answer Hi Aisah Dansal,
The script and score of no Broadway musical is available free and they are not published on the internet.
And even if I had one, which I don't, I certainly wouldn't give it away.
In order to perform ANY Broadway musical, or any part of one, you must legally obtain the rights to do so and pay royalties for those rights. Sometimes royalties are waived or lessened for school groups, but that is up to the publisher. It is, of course, illegal - a breach of copyright laws - to change a script in any way, but it is also illegal to perform it without permission from the publisher or playwright.
However, this does not include either the musical score or the rights to perform it. There is information about performance rights and score on that page, and contacting French should get you what you need.
If you are simply planning to perform one song from GREASE for your class, then you should be able to find the vocal selections from the show in most music stores or even online. You can also order it through Samuel French through a link on the page I gave you. You really don't need to obtain rights just to sing one song in a school performance.
