Question
Dr Cross.

Would you be so kind as to recommend a general acupressure approach to swelling and infection.

In my case, I somehow got swelling and probably infection in my lower lip.

Appreciate your time.

Thank you,

B.

Answer
Hi there,
This is not an easy one to answer as it requires a general reply due to the fact that I, obviously, do not know the cause of the swelling and infection. In Chinese medicine, the organs of the Earth element - Spleen and Stomach- are used to treat conditions involving the immune system and swelling. Acupressure may not be 'strong' enough to help you and it may need acupuncture with some good herbalism or homeopathy as well. You could, though try and work on points ST #Stomach#36 and SP #Spleen#4. St 36 is located below the knee near the top of the fibula bone and SP 4 is located on the inner aspect of the foot. It would be best to 'Google' these points to get an accurate description. Try stimulating each of these two points twice a day for 2 minutes each. Be careful with these points - do NOT stimulate ST 36 directly after eating and do NOT stimulate SP 4 if you are pregnant or during menstruation. This is 'long term' treatment that will take a few weeks. - JRC
