Question
Hello,
I was wondering which herbs and acupuncture points could be recommended to treat facial paralyzed nerve? I had surgery done around cheeks area 3 weeks ago which left me with paralyzed right side of the lip and the nose. I am still recovering and it might be temporary but in case it isn't. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Jasmine,

Thank you for your question. I have to let you know acupuncture has not been proven to reverse paralysis due to surgical procedures as far as I am aware however there are points that have been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of numbness and immobility due to stroke. These points may be of benefit given your condition but without a full workup, I am uncertain. The most affective points that have been used are: local points in the area of paralysis (ashi points), motor-sensory line (Chinese cranial point), LI4, ST7, ST5, SI19, SP6, LR3, CV24. I would recommend speaking to a board certified acupuncturist who has experience with herbal therapy as well. There are several herbal remedies that may of benefit in addition to acupuncture. I do hope you have found this information helpful. Please let me know if you have additional questions. I do wish you the best.
