Acupuncture/twisting the needle/back pain

Question
I went to an acupuncturist a few years ago just for a consultation for my low back pain and he gave me a brief demonstration by inserting a needle in my arm. It didn't hurt going in but he twisted it, which did hurt and burn, is that normal? Also, if I were to have acupuncture for low back pain, would I have to keep going back periodically after I complete the initial 8-10 sessions or do the effects last almost indefinitely? Thanks

Answer
Hey Lee,

Normally there is an electrical sensation, but sometimes there is also a mild burning sensation, so that is normal.

I think with any treatment, once the area or system is normalized, maintainance is neccesary. Just like on a car, it's better to keep it up, than wait for it to have a major breakdown.

Health care should be a habit, even once a month is going to be a lot cheaper than a string of sessions when something goes out.

Good call on getting help for your low back.

Take care,
