I am 14 weeks post wizdom tooth extraction and unfortunately have had some massive complications from a seemingly routine procedure which has left me in chronic pain.
My Oral surgeon wasn't to careful in it's extraction and I now have a mandible nerve neuropraxia, which is causing amazing sensitivity in my chin, tightness in my gum and teeth and general feelings of anxiety given that my life is consumed by what has happened.
this surgeon is no longer treating me and I am being looked after by the local professor at the university but whilst i wondered whether any TENS treatment or ultrasound in the affected area may stimulate blood flow and un-block areas which are affecting the nerve functioning properly, I wanted to harness your thoughts on what benefit accupuncture may have.
I realise nerve injuries take a long time to heal but wondered whether there is anything in your specialisation that may be worth consideration. I can feel things improving progressively but there is no continuity with this.
The drugs i am on (Tegretol) have quelled the pain a little which has enabled sleep, but i am constantly feeling fatigues as a result.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Kind regards
Steve
Answer Post wisdom tooth extraction complications are not rare. I have successfully treated such cases in past who were on heavy medication including Tegretol. Acupuncture definitely helps in these cases. I usually combined oral acupuncture with scalp, ear, and body acupuncture depending upon the pulse diagnosis and individual case for good results. Acupuncture can also help in easy wisdom tooth eruption without going under the painful surgical procedure. Kindly consult a good acupuncturist in your area who has experience in dealing with such cases. Please note that next week I'm leaving on my regular European lecture-cum-treatment tour with some of my students to deliver especial seminars on Bhupendra Techniques in Oslo, London, Penzence, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Amsterdam and would be back in the first week of June. So don't be surprised if your further correspondence in this regard is not replied.I hope by the time I return you will feel better otherwise you can visit my clinic in Vancouver with prior appointment after 6th June, 2008.
