Acupuncture/tinnitus

Question

Dear Dr Singh
I have suffered from tinnitus for 30+ years the result of an auto accident and subsequent skull fracture.
I gave acupuncture a try some 3 years ago without any success.I stopped after some 10 sessions and spending some $800 out of pocket.
My question is two fold.
(1) can acupuncture treat tinnitus resulting from injury?
(2) If the answer to question #1 is yes, how many treatments should I expect to lessen or hopefully eliminate the ringing/screeching in my right ear.

Answer
Acupuncture will be helpful in treating tinnitus provided there is no perforation in the drum. In cases of perforation either it is due to pus discharge in the ear or injury, acupuncture will be of no value, but surgical repair will help and that is the best line of treatment.
