Acupuncture/Acupuncture and emotional releases

Question
Hi!  I have been getting acupuncture for some "female issues" for about three weeks now.  The miriad of issues are: ovarian cysts on my left ovary, night sweats, and most recently uterine pain associated with possible endometriosis.  Mostly the uterine pain had referred to the low back and groin area.  I am not certain which meridians the DC is needling, but they are all points below the knees.  Anyway, I wondered if it was normal to feel emotions surface during the treatment?  The research I have done says people feel "relaxed".  That is rarely how I feel - I sometimes feel emotions that come out of the blue (seemingly) such as love and fear.  Is this part of the balancing process?  I am not afraid of needles - these emotions do seem to have no object attached to them.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Meredith,
Yes, emotional releases can be part of the treatment.  It is part of the emotional balancing process.  You should talk with your acupuncturist about them.  They should be less extreme the more balanced you become. I once had a patient that started laughing uncontrollably until the needles were removed.

Good health,
