Question
Hello i am interested in seeking acupuncture tx for my pms symptoms and frequency of periods (every 3 weeks).  what would be the approx frequency and length of treatment?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Queen,

Thank you for your question. First I would say that irregular menstruations is a challenging condition to treat with acupuncture alone. For that reason, most acupuncturists use a combination of acupuncture with herbal formulations. It is difficult to say how long a treatment should be and the number of treatments you would need not knowing on my part the reason for your irregular periods. Typically treatments sessions would take 3-6 months (Acupuncture 1x/week with herbs being taking each day until stabilization) to normalize. In the tradition of acupuncture and oriental medicine, there can several different causes. The good news is that practitioners have had very good success in assisting women in normalizing their cycles. It would be of great benefit for you to visit a local acupuncturist who is board certified and has a very strong foundation in herbs. I hope this information has been helpful. Should you have additional questions, please do let me know. Be well.
