Acupuncture - increasing blood flow distally

Expert: Heather Vandeburg - 10/15/2009

Question
My athletic 17 yr old son had a training accident and fractured the scaphoid bone in his wrist.  trainer thought it a sprain so he/we left it alone.  3 weeks later, x ray revealed a break.  surgery put the bone back together, but limited blood flow is slowing/preventing union.  He is in a wrist cast.  I have had great success with acupunture but can it help increase blood flow locally..in this case the wrist?

Answer
Hi Brew,
Yes, acupuncture can help increase blood flow to the wrist and hand.  I would needle the opposite hand and foot if the wrist is in a cast. There are some great herbs to increase blood flow and speed healing as well. Trauma 2 formula by golden flower is a good one. As long as he doesn't have high blood pressure or a bleeding disorder. Hope this helps.
