Question
Hi i think i have some scar tissue in my cheek from surgery on my cheekbone. My cheek looks slightly puffed out i was wondering could acupunture help reduce the scar tissue?

Answer
Hello Qasim,

Thank you very much for your question. Before I begin, there are several things to consider. The first consideration is how long ago was your surgery and what was its purpose. The second consideration is, do you know if you may have any type of localized infection resulting in your cheek appearing "slightly puffed out"?

If the answer is no to this question, then an licensed acupuncturist would be able to provide various different scar treatments. I have witnessed good to excellent results with scar treatments through the use of acupuncture. Keep in mind however that results vary due to differing factors including but not limited to the size of the scar, the age of the scar, your physical constitution and ability for healing, and the time/resources you have available to commit to such treatments.

I do have to say that it is very important to understand what is possible and to manage your expectations in that you would have to decide what is considered success. Is the complete disappearance of the scar what you expect? Is that feasible based on the factors discussed above? Is a decrease in size and appearance of the scar an acceptable level of "success"? These are questions that you would have to ask yourself and communicate your expectations clearly to the acupuncturist of your choice. I do hope you have found this information helpful and I do wish you all the best. Should you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me again. Be well.
