Question
Hi. Thanks so much for your availability.
My mom has been diagoned with Dystonia in her neck for the past few years. It really affects her life negatively, and I have now found myself passionate about helping to find her some real help with alternative/natural approaches. Can you please share with me your advice, insights, and any resources (websites, books, doctors, etc) that would be helpful? Thanks you so much! -Theo

Answer
Hello Theo,

Thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear of your mother's condition. I have to say first that I have not had any experience with treating dystonia. I will say however that there are treatments that are available from a theoretical point to aid her in achieving some relief. I am not certain as to the degree of relief she may receive not having the benefit of a full workup however.

There are regions of the scalp that are designed for addressing and treating neurological disorders. The regions that would be indicated are the motor line, sensory line and chorea-tremor lines. Local application of acupuncture would also assist as adjuncts to the scalp regions. The treatment would be designed to not only address the pain sensations she is experiencing but also the spasms that she may be experiencing as well. I do want to set the correct expectations for you in saying that neurological disorders are complicated and can take months to stabilize. I would certainly encourage you to visit a board certified acupuncturist with a strong foundation in herbs for a complete assessment. He/She would then be able to develop a treatment plan. I hope this has been of some help. Should you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Be well.

Regards,
Coninyah B. Dew L.Ac., M.S.O.M.
