Question
I have degenerative disc disease in my lower back and the pain has gotten to the point where I may have to see an acupuncurist, which I can't really afford. But I have a delivery job one morning a week that I can not afford to lose that requires repetitive semi-heavy lifting (bundles of papers)and it definitely irritates and increases any pain in that area. I need to keep this job, but will it counteract any benefit or positive effect of the acupuncture treatments and I'd be wasting my money? Or could the treatments relief the pain even with this activity?Thanks

Hey Lee,

I think acupucture is great for pain relief via the endorphin response.
If at all possible I would highly recommend giving your body a rest while you heal.
If this is not possible, keep your back static and upright and lift with your legs.
Under no circumstances should you twist at the waist under load.

I would check with a good chiropractor and see what they can do for you.
Many times they have a different diagnosis than an MD, and as the back is their
special area of study, they can often time offer great results.

The combination would be super for your condition.
Another thought is massage therapy, often times the muscles of the legs when tight or adhered can
throw off the ankles and or knees and this can have a direct adverse effect on the hips and then low back. It can be like a negative domino effect that cascades up to the low back.
