Acupuncture - blocked nerve in feet

Expert: Dr. Man Tran, Ph.D, D.C., L.Ac. - 9/19/2009

Question
After chemo 2yrs ago I am left with the severe numbness /burning/tingling ,in feet and fingers.
I have seen many Drs and nothing they can come up with only its my own body that will regenerate the nerves to heal themselves.the signal is going down to my feet but not going up again to my brain.I don't have pain as such just extreme tightness and cramp.  Question....   Will acupuncture help to regenerate the nerves  or just help with pain

I await your reply .thank you for your help ..Agnes

Answer
Dear Agnes Ward,

Acupuncture can manage your pain but won't affect the healing of the nerve directly.  Best is to be patient and let the body do its job.  Acupuncture helps with the nerve healing by stopping the pain therefore relieving the body of stress from the pain.  This in turn allows the body to work optimally at healing itself.  If the body is in pain, it will be under great stress and all process will be slowed.
