Acupuncture/Mysterious inflammatory thing
Expert: R. Scott Malone L.Ac. - 1/15/2010
QuestionI found you through your compassionate response to Carson and his tinnitus problem! (re: Yahoo’s Adyashanti group). What a find!
After two years of little progress from allopathic medicine (offering HRT and anti-depressants...and monitoring my thyroid levels...which they didn't do), I am wondering where life wants to take this bit of Itself next!
In order to calm my stomach down (re: pain/bloating etc) I decided to ignore the heavy-handed offer of drugs (to me, totally inappropriate) and followed an elimination diet (oversensitive to ordinary foods) to discover the worst triggers. I took herbs for liver cleansing and now follow a caveman/Hay diet and take supplements of enzymes, probiotics, aloe vera, flax, starflower oil. This has allowed my stomach to heal somewhat (I suspect that I had a leaky gut, exacerbated by the cessation of periods. I have had allergies since early childhood).
I am asthmatic and my nose tends to streams quite a lot (worse at night). I am sleep-deprived due to asthma/sniffles/pain. When I am not uncomfortable, however, I sleep well as I have always done.
My body seems inflamed (over producing mucus) and always below optimum temperature.
By nature, I love to be physically active and thrive in the sun.
I would like to get to the root of things. Two years ago I had six weeks of acupuncture but my recommended practitioner seemed quite baffled...and there seemed to be very little actual progress...
I trusted that Life would show me a way 'forward' in some way...and I'm pretty mellow about this apparent setback even though it makes it very hard to continue working...
Anyway...whatever your response (or choice not to )...I'm just glad we connected! You really sound like you know your stuff...and that's always lovely to witness!
AnswerHey Veronica,
If your asthma is short inhale long exhale, it's most likely kidney qi deficiency.
If it is long inhale short exhale, we are looking at a lung qi issue.
Stomach had pain and bloating this is possible liver qi invasion of stomach and spleen.
Bloating is often times a sign of liver qi or food stagnation.
As for over producing mucus, this is usually seen as spleen qi deficiency.
The spleen is in charge of the vaporization of fluids, as the spleen weakens,
it's inability to truly vaporize fluids leads to accumulation of phlegm
which in turn is cast upward into the "florid canopy" of the lungs.
My answer to you, and again this is without a solid intake and diagnosis,
but off the cuff I would recommend that you see an acupuncturist to
rectify the relationship between the liver and spleen
strengthen the spleen and kidneys
clear phlegm
Herbs would be very important in your recovery.
If you would like a more precise diagnosis, feel free to send me an e-mail requesting an intake to
