Hello, how effective acupuncture for severe cystic acne? Can it reduce the inflamation and swelling in one visit? Thanks.

Hi Alex,
Acupuncture can be helpful for all kinds of acne.  You may not see changes in one treatment. Probably, you have quite a bit of underlying toxic heat. That takes time to clear. A good topical herbal prepared formula to try is "Yin Care." I am sure you can buy it online.  You will have to do oral Chinese herbs as well if things are severe. Your probably talking at least a series of treatments which is 10 - 12.  Cystic acne is often from phlegm heat. But best to have a Tradional Chinese Medicine practitioner assess your underlying condition.  Avoid fatty, hot or sweet foods. I am a fan of pearl cream topically. You may want to see an esthtician they used a device that kills bacteria on the surface of your skin via electricity.   Bottom line it will take some time and effort. Bleeding acupuncture points is a common treatment for this so don't be alarmed.  A topical mix for cysts is Dian Dao San made by grinding equal amounts of Da Huang and Liu huang (sulfur) to a fine powder and mixing with cool boiled water. Applied twice a day for three months.
