Acupuncture/magnets

Question
QUESTION: What can you tell me about Therion (thera-dot) magnets for those who are not acupuncturists?  I have used lower strenth gauss magnets before and really liked them.  I'm trying to find something stronger to try on my Morton's foot neuroma. The sites that sell the thera-dot mention that one has to be careful with the application, etc.  It could just be a general disclaimer, but it left me wondering if there is something about the Therion magnets - as it mentions 3x stronger at skin surfacae nad 50% more penetration.

Thanks - Patty

ANSWER: Hi Patty,
Therion magnets are magnets used on acu-points.  They have a positive and negative pole just like all magnets.  Depending on what your intention is for the point, tells you which pole to face toward the point.  North is (neg) it usually have a nipple, this is for draining or sedating a point.  For example if you have arthritis and have excess pain which is sharp and stabbing.  South is positive and it is supplementing.  So if your weak and you want to boost your qi (chee energy) you would use a positive poled magnet on ST36.  SO it depends on what your pain is like, as to which pole you use.  More than likely you want to reduce (neg) at the local pain point of the Morton's neuroma.  Do you know the actual gauss strength?  I generally use  800-1000 gauss.  One negative possibility is that you can get a rash if they are left on too long.  So I would say no longer than a couple days on at a time and then give yourself a break. Dont use on open sores.  Not near pacemakers. And discontinue if you develop a rash.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: The one that is Therion that I saw  is 12,800 gauss (but I'm not sure at surface level).  It is 6" penetration.

What does therion really mean in relation to magnets?

Thanks very much.  The neuroma I have is a stump neuroma (and lots of scar tissue probably too)

Answer
Hi Patty. 12,800 is probably overkill for a foot.  I would use it carefully and not for long period of time maybe 15-20 min and keep it away from anything electrical.  I believe that Therion is just a brand name.  I could be wrong.

Take care,
Heather
