Acupuncture/wind

Question
Heather,
I have studied a fair amount of oriental philosophy and have done tai chi for several years. I say this just to add some context to my question. I, in no way, mean to say I am well schooled in any of this.

I was wondering if you could tell me what is meant by wind in acupuncture. I have heard that GB20 and BL10 regulate internal and external wind and am not sure if I understand what that means. I may have not even understood or remembered correctly.

Thank you for your time.
Mark

Answer
Hi Mark,
Wind is one of the pathogens that assaults our bodies.  Along with damp, cold, heat and phlegm.  The Chinese Medicine constraint is that wind enters us through the wind gate. The back of our neck.  That is why GB20 UB12, BL10 are important points for ridding us of wind.  Because they are in the wind gate area.  So literally you can have wind trapped in your body making you sick.  External wind heat, and wind cold are cold and flu symptoms.  Internal wind is more nefarious, seizures, stroke, dizziness, etc.  Hope this helps.  Make sure to cover your neck when your out in the wind.  Don't sleep with a fan blowing on you.
