Acupuncture/Painful acupuncture points

Question
Hi Heather, Thanks for volunteering your time with allexperts. :)
I have tried acupuncture with three people so far and there are always some spots that are very painful for me with the needle, enough that I just can't take it. The needle for taking blood is much less painful that some of these spots like just inside my ankles. Anyway I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to help make them less painful? I thought about numbing cream, but I am thinking that doesn't go deep enough or maybe pressing those spots like maybe accupressure will help. I'm not sure really and was hoping there is something I can do that you may be able to suggest. I really want to try acupuncture but can't handle some spots. Thank you for your time. :) Katelin

Answer
Hi Katelin, yes acupressure should help if you use it between your treatments. Often tender or painful points are points that need the most treatment. The more you have them treated with acupuncture or acupressure the less uncomfortable they will be.  Hang in there, keep trying.   Sometimes distraction helps with painful points. Coughing with inserting helps.
