Acupuncture - Accupuncture/accupressure for wt loss

Expert: Dr. Brendon J. O`Brien, D.C. - 11/10/2004

Question
Dr. O'Brien,

Any help through accupuncture and or accupressure for appetite control/weight loss?  I'm an otherwise very healthy late 40's male, 6'4 and 250#, moderate cardio work 3 - 4 times per week, no meds, BP 130/85 and resting pulse of 70.  I've also been over 230 pounds since I was 17.

Looking forward to your comments. Dennis M

Answer
Hello Dennis,

Acupuncture may help suppress the appetite.  Herbs and tea will also do this.  Depending on your body structure and goals for weight loss, 230lbs might be perfect for you!  Often increasing your cardio in time up to a hour or more per session, is the best for immediate weight loss and great for your heart!  Small modifications in diet can be made to: Not eating your last meal after 6pm, Cardio first thing in the morning, Decreasing your sugar and Carb intake, Using rice instead of pasta's and breads, and make sure your getting enough soluable fiber 25-30g per day.  Just a couple things that make a big difference.

Hope the information helps!

Dr. Brendon O'Brien D.C.
